Richard Harrison Crawford was born on March 21, 1926, in Traer, the son of Wendell and Pearl (Harrison) Crawford. Richard graduated from Traer High School. He then served his country in the United States Navy during the end of World War II, being stationed in Guam. On November 20, 1948, Richard was united in marriage to Betty Finks in Traer. The couple made their home in rural Dysart, where Richard farmed for many years. In the Fall of 2010, Richard and Betty moved back to Traer. Richard was a member of Ripley United Church of Christ and the Traer American Legion. He was the world's best popcorn maker, loved animals, and enjoyed fishing, golfing, ballroom dancing, making homemade ice-cream, and spending time with his family. Richard died at the age of 91 on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Richard is survived by a daughter, Rita Schofield of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a son, Rick (Sue) Crawford of Dysart; five grandchildren, Nathan Schofield of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Christine Schofield of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kirk (Amy) Crawford of Dysart, Kamie Hurley of Cedar Falls, and Kelli Crawford if Chicago, Illinois; five great grandchildren, Kody and Kolton Crawford and Madison, Kayla, and Rylan Hurley; a sister, Joan Rodimaker; and a brother, Dan (Rita) Crawford of Des Moines.
